Correspondence & personal documents of Sir Arthur Stanley, Governor of Victoria, 1914-1920, concerning Australian political & constitutional matters, World War I, the Red Cross Appeal plus family & political news from Europe. Correspondents include: Governors of New South Wales, Western Australia & Tasmania, Sir Thomas Carmichael the Governor of Bengal, Oliver Stanley, Cecil Harmsworth, William E. Goodenough, Hugh Bell, R. Wilberforce, Victor Hood & Horace Gale. Other papers include family wills, passport and other documents. Also in the collection are six letters, 1915-1917, from Sir Gerald Strickland, Governor of New South Wales marked "private" & "private and secret" discussing political & constitutional questions on Australia & the Commonwealth Powers (War) Bill plus 29 p. of draft letters in Stanley's hand including one to Strickland.
